Essence

Essence

The essence of something is the unchanging, invariable nature of a thing.

So maybe it is our essence which provides the clue to who we really are...

If our essence is unchanging then we can not be the character or personality of the person we refer to so often as "I am". This self is always changing. This idea of the self is, when you think about it, just a bunch of thoughts, beliefs and conditioning.

A Case of Mistaken Identity

A Case of Mistaken Identity

There is only one reason that we suffer…

Mistaken identity.

When we identify with the separate self (the ego) the inevitable result is suffering.

And of course we do this all the time. (“I am stressed… I am anxious… I am sad… I am depressed…”).

What we tend to do next is go outside to look for the cause.

Who Are You Really?

Who Are You Really?

In order to really explore this question, we need to first rule out who we are not. See, the thing is we can not figure out the answer to this from the perspective of who we are not. The character on the screen can not tell you about your true self as it is just a character on the screen. Simon, this body/mind, is just an activity of Consciousness and can not know Consciousness.

This Spiritual Stuff Matters

This Spiritual Stuff Matters

I often get asked something along the lines of the following:

“What is it with all the spiritual stuff Si?”

And really I don’t like to talk about it too much unless I think the person asking is genuinely interested, in which case I’ll normally point them to an article or video. There’s nothing more I like than talking about our true nature but I’m realistic about the prospect of converting an old football friend to the spiritual path in Sainsbury’s.

You are Awake

You are Awake

Or to be more accurate, you are Awakeness (the True Self, Consciousness). Always have been, always will be. You, like me, like all of us, just lost sight of this. When you see a baby it is so apparent that they are awake. Even when they are asleep, they are awake. They are brimming with awakeness.

The Pathless Path

The Pathless Path

I have always, as long as I can remember anyway, known there is more to life, to what appears out there in the world that we see through our eyes. Back in my early twenties amidst the parties and the chasing of a good time I knew that wasn’t it. The “good time” was a distraction. I remember going to the book shop and looking for a book that would give me a clue, an answer…

What Is Causing Your Stress?

What Is Causing Your Stress?

I used to actually think stress came with the territory when it came to work. As a Digital Project Manager I would blame my stress on the complex project I was on. The truth is though that stress is a feeling and our feelings are caused by the ebb and flow of our thinking experience. Projects do not and can not cause stress. Projects have no special powers to cause you to actually *feel* one way or another.
